Meet the New Trustees

The Chapel's Board of Trustees is made up of twelve men who serve in rotating 3-year terms. In a typical year, four trustees will complete their 3-year commitment, and the membership of The Chapel will vote to affirm four new trustees to replace them.

For the 2022 vote, six Board positions were open, due to the  four expiring terms and two mid-term resignations. Accordingly, The Chapel gathered nominations from the staff and congregation in October 2021 to identify six new men to fill those seats.

In accordance with our church constitution, a nominating committee evaluated the candidates and presented the final six names to the congregation. On January 16, 2022, the membership voted to affirm and ratify all six of these men as members of our Board of Trustees.

At the first official board meeting of 2022, the trustees elected their officers. Jon Strong will serve as Chairman, Denny Adams will serve as Vice Chairman, and Scott Spillan will serve as Board Secretary.

Former Staff

Leaders at The Chapel have deployed a Listening Team to reach out to former employees (of the Akron Campus and Central Services) who left the staff team during the last seven years. We desire to hear from them about their experiences and to understand if reconciliation is necessary. That process has already begun and will continue until thoroughly complete.

Ministry Model

A Ministry Model Committee has been assembled for the purpose of reviewing The Chapel's existing ministry model and proposing recommendations for the future. This team is made up of men and women from multiple Chapel campuses, including pastors and trustees.

The team began meeting in January 2022 and is expected to continue meeting regularly through the first half of this year. These men and women are seeking and trusting the Holy Spirit in this process, convinced that He will guide as they humbly seek His wisdom in these discussions.

Church Governance

The Chapel's governing document is our church constitution. Our church constitution was created for one congregation, gathering in one place, and was most recently updated in 2009. Today, we are seven congregations, utilizing the same governance document. It is clear that our constitution no longer serves The Chapel effectively. We expect and intend to make necessary revisions to this document; Lord willing, the revision process can begin in the first quarter of 2022 and this work can continue alongside the review of our ministry model.

Next Senior Pastor

We recognize the need for clear leadership. However, questions related to our governance and ministry model will be considered and answered first, and then we will shift our focus to the question of a new Senior Pastor.
